Got together with some composers earlier in 2023 and we all wrote to the same prompt — Winter. I’d been watching Wednesday on Netflix and chose a darker, mystical sort of aesthetic for my piece from the inspiration. Something I’m trying to do as a composer is write in a more free form jazz sort of sense, lots of upper extensions, non-traditional chord progressions, etc. The hook towards the middle of the piece is as tonal as it gets, but the areas around it are more ambiguous. Had a lot of fun writing this one!
